MarinTrust es consciente de la existencia de una amplia variedad de otros estándares y herramientas de referencia para pesquerías y fábricas. Nuestro reconocimiento de equivalencia, vigente a partir del 1 de mayo de 2024, describe el proceso mediante el cual se puede determinar la equivalencia.
Al permitir el reconocimiento de otros estándares o herramientas de referencia, podemos:
- reducir la duplicación innecesaria de evaluaciones y/o auditorías
- reducir la duración de la auditoría para los titulares de certificados y solicitantes
- reducir los costos para los titulares de certificados y solicitantes
- asegurar un mayor acceso al mercado para los ingredientes marinos
- y, en última instancia, aumentar la disponibilidad de ingredientes marinos obtenidos y producidos de manera responsable.
Proceso
Como parte de este proceso, además de evaluar la equivalencia de los estándares y herramientas de referencia en relación con sus propios requisitos, se debe determinar que el propietario del estándar o herramienta de referencia sea creíble, sólido y relevante. Este es un paso importante para salvaguardar la integridad y la garantía del Programa MarinTrust.
Las etapas clave incluyen:
- Etapa 1 - Inicio del proceso de reconocimiento de equivalencia
- Etapa 2 - Autoevaluación
- Etapa 3 - Evaluación de equivalencia por un tercero
- Etapa 4 - Decisión de reconocimiento y actualización de la documentación
A continuación, se describe con más detalle lo que implican estas etapas.
Estándares y herramientas de referencia reconocidos
Estos son los estándares y herramientas de referencia que están actualmente reconocidos bajo la Versión 2 y/o la Versión 3 del Estándar MarinTrust.

Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)
El Estándar de Pesquerías del Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Versión 2.0 fue formalmente reconocido bajo el Programa MarinTrust en enero de 2021. El Estándar de Pesquerías MSC Versión 2.0 fue evaluado en comparación con los requisitos de evaluación de pesquerías de pescado entero de MarinTrust V2.0.
Los resultados del ejercicio de comparación demostraron que el Estándar de Pesquerías MSC es equivalente a los requisitos de la evaluación de pesquerías de MarinTrust V2.0.
Por lo tanto, MarinTrust ofreció un reconocimiento formal de las pesquerías certificadas por MSC, dependiendo de:
-el tipo de materia prima;
-la reclamación de MSC que posea la instalación.
Versión 3 del Estándar de Fábrica MarinTrust
Tras la fecha de entrada en vigor de la Versión 3 del Estándar MarinTrust, se realizó una evaluación de equivalencia por parte de un tercero designado contra los criterios de pesquerías de pescado entero MarinTrust V3 en agosto y septiembre de 2024, con el fin de mantener el estatus de reconocimiento del Estándar de Pesquerías MSC V2.01.
El resultado de la evaluación de equivalencia fue "reconocimiento completo" y el Estándar de Pesquerías MSC V2.01 mantuvo su estatus de reconocimiento.

GSSI
Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative’s (GSSI) Global Benchmark Tool Version 2.0, Section D was formally recognised under the MarinTrust programme on 1st April 2025 effective from 1st August 2025.
This recognition applies specifically to small pelagic fisheries for whole fish certified under a GSSI-recognised standard.
The equivalency assessment was carried out by a designated third-party against MarinTrust Whole Fish Fisheries Criteria Version 3 in November 2024.
The outcome of the third-party equivalency assessment was ‘fully equivalent’ recognition and Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative’s (GSSI) Global Benchmark Tool Version 2.0 - Section D (essential criteria) achieved recognition status.
The equivalency assessment showed that GSSI Global Benchmark Framework, Section D, essential criteria meet with the 100% MarinTrust’s minimum requirements. GSSI recognition requires compliance with all essential criteria therefore any GSSI-recognised standard can be assured to meet MarinTrust’s whole fish fishery assessment requirements.

Programa de Aseguramiento de la Calidad (PAC)
The Chilean PAC was formally recognised under the MarinTrust Programme in 2019. A full review of equivalency conducted in 2022 confirmed that facilities certified to the Chilean PAC can be considered to have met requirements equivalent to almost all of those set out in Section 3.2 of the factory clauses of the MarinTrust Standard Version 2. MarinTrust Standard Version 3
Following the effective date of the MarinTrust Standard V3, equivalency assessment was conducted by an appointed third party against subsection 5.2-5.4 of the MarinTrust Standard V 3.0 (Good Manufacturing Practices) in May and June 2024 to maintain Chilean PAC recognition status.
The outcome of the equivalency assessment was ‘partial recognition’ and Chilean PAC maintained its recognition status.

GMP+ Production of Feed Ingredients Standard
GMP+ R1.0 is the version that has been benchmarked against Version 3 of the MarinTrust factory standard. Facilities certified to this GMP+ standard with the scope Production of Feed Materials can be considered to have met requirements equivalent to almost all of those set out in the Section 5 of the factory clauses of MarinTrust Standard Version 3.
The previous version of GMP+ (B2) was benchmarked against V2 of the factory standard. Facilities whose certification still falls under this version of GMP+ will continue to have this version recognised whilst they transition to R1.0.
MarinTrust Standard Version 3
The equivalence assessment was performed by a designated third party against subsections 5.2-5.4 of the MarinTrust Standard V3.0 (Good Manufacturing Practices) in May and June 2024.
The result of the equivalence assessment was “partial recognition” and GMP+ maintained its recognition status under the MarinTrust Standard Version 3.0.

Feed Materials Assurance Scheme (FEMAS) Version 2.1)
FEMAS is currently recognised under MarinTrust Programme. Facilities certified to the FEMAS can be considered to have met requirements equivalent to almost all of those set out in the Section 3.2 of the factory clauses of MarinTrust Standard Version 2.
MarinTrust Standard Version 3
Following the effective date of the MarinTrust Standard V3, equivalency assessment was conducted by an appointed third party against the subsection 5.2-5.4 of the MarinTrust Standard V 3.0 (Good Manufacturing Practices) in May and June 2024 to maintain FEMAS recognition.
The outcome of the equivalency assessment for FEMAS was ‘partial recognition’ and their recognition was maintained.
